A Guide to Understanding Globe Slicer Models
Posted by Brian Ringelheim on Nov 2nd 2021
If you're buying a slicer for the first time, or if you're thinking about switching brands and buying a Globe slicer, it can be hard to sift through your options.
The key to understanding the overall breakdown of Globe's slicer models is understanding the series letter labels.
- C-Series denotes Economy slicers
- G-Series denotes Medium-duty slicers
- S-Series (formerly N-series) denotes premium, heavy-duty slicers
Based on your general needs, you might be able to predict which series you'll fall into. But here's a chart that makes the right model easy to find, plus a breakdown of the main differentiating factors among the slicers in each series.
C-Series Economy Globe Slicers
These may fit the bill if you’re:
- On a tight budget or have limited space
- Slicing meat and produce only
- Slicing less than two hours per day
All C-Series slicers are constructed of aluminum with seamless edges. You may notice some variances in the slices as the gravity fed chute is more upright on these slicers to save space. The operator may have to push the product toward the blade and can create a wedge effect to the product being sliced.
Blade length is a main differentiator here. Longer blades give more cutting surface room and also a bit more power.
G-Series Medium-duty Globe Slicers
These are worth it if you:
- Have higher volume slicing needs but limited workspace
- Need more safety features, or an automatic option
- Want a blade that lasts longer and sharpens easily, with more horsepower (i.e. for slicing cheese)
The G12 is one of our most popular slicers because of the durability and price point. This slicer should be sufficient for most restaurant and smaller deli needs.
For a manual medium duty, blade length is the main distinguishing factor that gives larger slicers more cutting surface and a bit more power.
For an automatic medium duty from Globe, you've got one choice: the G12A.
The GC512 is a heavier medium duty slicer that gives more power and some other distinguishing features at a lower price point than the S-Series heavy duty slicers.
The S-Series Premium Slicers
Note: Globe’s premium line used to be the N-Series slicers. Those models were produced until 2017, but have been phased out by the S-Series slicers. The 3600N has been around for years, but it was replaced by the S-13. As a result, the S-Series is what we're focusing on here.
A heavy-duty slicer is a must if you're:
- slicing all day
- slicing cheese for extended periods of time
- looking for specialty requirements, like frozen meat slicing or use in a correctional facility
All of Globe's S-Series slicers have 13" blades and are stainless on all food contact points. The S series slicer series offers additional safety features and power that are generally seen in high volume delis, institutions, supermarkets, universities, and central kitchens.
Here are the breakdowns for choosing what works for you:
- Choose a model with a "G" in it if you need features like home position start, close to start, adjustable timer, and return to home carriage.
- Choose a model with an "F" if you will be slicing frozen meat.
- Choose a model with a 15 in it for correctional facilities.
The standard for these machines is 115V, but they're also available in 220V (the S13-05 and the SG13-05) and 220/50V (S13-07) if needed.
Specialty Slicers
Doing front of the house theater slicing? Globe has a gorgeous red flywheel slicer that might be a choice for you, and it comes in two sizes.
