Moving Ice Around is Easy with Right Equipment
Dec 30th 2019
Whether you are setting up a new ice making procedure, or improving on an existing one, the proper tools and equipment will make your business run smoother- and safer. If your business relies on ice; for drinks, food presentation, or healthcare applications, many times ice transport is necessary. Literally, moving ice product from an ice maker to the area where the ice is to be used. There are many tools, from our line of trusted manufacturers, designed to make the tasks at hand easier on you and your staff. There is no need to risk contamination by using food containers or bus pans to transfer.
Starting Small
It's pretty important that contamination by employee hands, the environment, or the improper ice transport containers be avoided. Proper scoops are a must. Proper scoop holders to store them when not in use are important, too. Determine how far ice needs to be moved. A dedicated bucket such as the hand held San Jamar SI600, which holds a comfortable carrying weight of ice may be the right solution. Find it here. Making sure your staff can move ice without strain or harm is important when determining the degree of tools needed.
Have larger needs than a tote can provide?
The Saf-T-Ice tote can be stacked 2 high and moved via the optional cart (SICART60) for double the capacity. This cart will prohibit costly work injuries and folds easily for storage. Many choose an ice caddy such as the Cambro ICS100L. A mobile ice caddy that glides easily via casters meant to maneuver well on multiple surfaces. So whether you need to move ice across campus, banquet floors or get to poolside, this model will have you covered for up to 100 pounds of ice. The Cambro ICS100L sliding lid caddy is great for indoors or outdoors, and will hold ice cold for days. The polyethylene body and thick foam insulation provide durability and long lasting ice storage. The unique sliding lid helps reduce the risk of cross contamination. It slides back and under for quick and easy access and it slides shut for safe and sanitary storage. Recessed well and drain shelf keep ice out of water, extending holding times. Recessed handle on front end for easy moving and lifting. Easy to clean. No assembly required. Smaller and larger units are available. All are NSF listed. Find some here.
Dispensers and Baggers
Many times caddies are loaded using a dispenser, thus eliminating hand contamination risks. An ice dispenser makes good business sense if you would like a more sanitary method to getting ice than scooping would allow. Less hands are near the ice and the product stays covered keeping environmental contaminants, such as dust or smoke, away from it. Larger models are many times found in the back of the house, where ice is dispensed into containers for transport or to fill bags for ice sales or easy transport. The Manitowoc K00146, shown at right, is a convenient bagger system that can be set up with your ice-machine and bin.
